Dental Prophylaxis |
Dental disease is the number one health issue affecting 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of three, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society. Daily plaque accumulates on your pet's teeth and then mineralize into tartar, which can't be removed without a professional dental cleaning. Yearly exams are necessary to assess your pet's teeth and determine if they are due for a dental prophylaxis. All pets undergoing anesthesia for a dental cleaning will first have pre-operative blood work to ensure that they are healthy.

During a dental prophylaxis, your pet will be put under general anesthesia so that we can safely examine their oral cavity and scale tartar off their teeth. We take full mouth x-rays on all of our patients undergoing a dental procedure to find hidden disease under the gumline. Lastly, the teeth are polished and a sealant is applied that prevents plaque build-up.

Oral Surgery
Some dental disease requires advanced extraction techniques. Our doctors are skilled in performing complicated extractions and using techniques that can help save a tooth and prevent the need for extraction.
90% of extractions require some level of oral surgery, and are not as simple as "pulling teeth". For 18 years we have used digital dental x-ray to prevent retained root fragments (the most common complication of dental extractions). |
