
Canine and feline acupuncture is a minimally-invasive way to help resolve acute and chronic pain in pets. It is often used as part of an integrative pain management plan, alongside other therapy and medications. Dr. Byl is certified in animal acupuncture and is one of the only veterinarians in our area providing this service.
Does it hurt?
The needles are very small and only cause minimal discomfort for most patients. We try to distract them with extra tasty treats during their acupuncture sessions!
How does acupuncture work?
During the treatment, needles are placed near nerves, blood vessels or muscle junctions which then stimulate the nerves to send signals to the brain to release neural hormones such as endorphins. This can provide immediate pain relief for some conditions!
How many treatments will my pet need?
Some ailments can be improved with just one treatment, but most chronic conditions will require multiple treatments. At the first exam, Dr. Byl will make an assessment of your pet to determine how many follow-up treatments may be needed.
